急遽、スペシャル・パフォーマンス『GRAND OPENING (Work in Progress from Lower East Side)』が決定しました。ニューヨ−クのロウアー・イースト・サイドを拠点に活躍する５人のアーティストが、大地の芸術祭のためにコラボレーション・パフォーマンスを製作。magicalでは、その現在進行形を一足先に、たっぶりお届けします。緊急来日中の５人の欧米日作家、そして特別ゲスト・アーティストによる変化球に富んだパフォーマンスをお楽しみ下さい。

パフォーマンス終了後、18:３0〜は、運営メンバーの市原研太郎と５人アーティストによるトークショーも企画しております。ニューヨークのアートは現在どんな状況なのか？ぜひ皆様のおこしをお待ちしております。

 

 

このたびmagicalでは、急遽、ニューヨークから大地の芸術祭のために来日中のアーティスト５人を招待することになりました。ダンス、歌、映画、演劇、衣服、スポーツ、マジック・トリックス、アンダーグラウンド・カルチャー、旗、協力者たち、オブジェ、すべてがお互いに関係し合い、予測出来ないファンタジー「magical」のような、GRAND OPENINGS パフォーマンスとなります。
　参加アーティスト、ユタ・クータは、新潟の高校の教育方針をハイジャック、新しいアートのマニフェストに仕立てあげます。新鋭のギャラリストでもあるエミリー・サンドブラッドは、突然歌を歌います。ジェイ・サンダースは、パフォーマンス・アートの隠れた歴史の探検家、彼のアーカイブから即興で何かを上映します。一方、ステファン・チェレプニンは、「サウンド・キャラクター」というコンセプトを元に、生き物のような音楽を重層的に散りばめ、荒川医（エイ）は、それらの間を夢見る少女ような繊細で有機的なダンスや、建築工事、時に笑いを誘います。そして、謎のゲスト・アーティスト、リー・ウィリアムスの登場。予測出来ないオープニングの連続、『GRAND OPENING (Work in Progress from Lower East Side)』 ぜひお楽しみください。

Jutta Koether, born in 1958 in Cologne. Lives and works in New York. Emily Sundblad received her B.F.A. from the Parsons School of Design, New York in 2002. Sundblad is an artist, gallerist, singer and actress. Her major project to date has been the creation of Reena Spaulings, an art gallery located on the Lower East Side, which she co-directs and operates as a radical, collaborative ongoing performance project. Sundblad uses the space to navigate the multifaceted personas between artist, performer, curator, and dealer. Her own performance works have been raucous affairs?musical, spectacular, and wholly unpredictable. She also performs in a country band with playwright Richard Maxwell and others.

Born 1977 in Japan, Ei Arakawa graduated from the School of Visual Arts, Bard College and Whitney Independent Study Program. Ei Arakawa stages culturally investigative group performances, which teeter on the brink of random chaos. His choreographed actions have included simulated half-time shows with the rapid building and unbuilding of a stage; a manned art factory creating replicas of On Kawara paintings; a large dance calisthenics class as an elaborate homage to Japanese Gutai action-art; and most recently, a make-shift outdoor bar and performance venue on Bard College’s campus. Recent performances include P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Reena Spaulings, Greene Naftali Gallery, Yale, and Columbia University.

Stefan Tcherepnin M.F.A.a composer/artist currently focused on creating live electronic soundscapes out of material derived from and generated by analog electronic synthesizers, acoustic stringed instruments, and percussion … as well as the occasional archaic digital technology. Tcherepnin has performed, recorded and toured with several bands throughout the last decade, and his music is featured on an upcoming release by the Shinkoyo label. Recent performances in NYC have been at Diapason, The Tank, Tonic, The Knitting Factory, and Columbia University.

Jay Sanders (Director, Greene Naftali Gallery, NY) The Greene Naftali Gallery was founded in 1995 as one of the first galleries in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood. The program is committed to exhibiting the work of emerging international artists including Julie Becker, Paul Chan, Guyton \ Walker, Michaela Meise, Daniel Pflumm, and Amelie von Wulffen as well as lesser known but influential artists such as Harun Farocki, Morgan Fisher and Michael Krebber. The gallery is known for its intellectual and ambitious group shows including Broken Home curated by Caroline Schneider, Snowflake Office curated by Clemmens Krummel, and Motore Immobile curated by Carol Greene and Jay Sanders.
