We are pleased to inform you that the solo exhibition of Satoshi Ohno
will open its door as our last exhibition in Roppongi. Ohno participated
in the group exhibition ‘WORM HOLE episode1’ in 2006. He did live paintings
on the wall and exhibited paintings then. After ‘WORM HOLE episode1’,
when his works were exhibited at MAGIC ROOM?, they were found by Tomio
Koyama. Tomio Koyama held his solo exhibition at his gallery as well as
Armory Show in New York. Recently Ohno exhibits his works inside and outside
Japan, like ‘ritual’ held at Wondersite Shibuya, and the exhibition in
Hawaii.
Ohno was the first to paint on the wall at magical, ARTROOM, which means
magical, ARTROOM started with him. This time, he returned temporally to
magical, ARTROOM as a closing artist.
Although Ohno is known for his dynamic installations, this exhibition
features five circle paintings which has a diameter of 180cm. He says
‘I would like to output the image of the experience when I went primeval
forest with drawings and photographs through my own body’s sense of touch,
I condense the trace of perception into paintings, and paint each scene
symbolically.’ He seeks to make paintings as strong as installations.
Drawings and solid works will be exhibited on the 4th floor.

このたびmagicalでは、大野智史の個展を、六本木での最後の展示として開催します。大野智史は、2006年立ち上げ初めの展示『WORM
HOLE episode1』で壁にライブペインティングを描き、また平面の作品を展示しました。その後、MAGIC ROOM?で展示、そこで小山登美 夫氏に認められ、すぐに小山登美夫ギャラリーにて個展。さらにアーモリーショーにてソロで展示を行い、最近ではワンダーサイト渋谷での『ritual』展やハワイでの展示など国内外で活躍を続けています。立ち上げ始めのmagicalの壁に最も早く描き始めたので、いわば大野くんからmagicalははじまり、最後も締めとして、里帰りの個展を行う事になりました。
ダイナミックなインスタレーションでも知られる大野ですが、今回の個展では、ペインティング中心の展示を考えています。直径180cmの５点のサークルペインティングが出展される予定です。「原生林に行った経験の中での色々な場面を自分の身体の触覚を通して、ドローイングや写真でイメージを出力し、それらの知覚の痕跡をペインティングに凝縮させ、それぞれの場面を象徴的に描こうと思っている」というのが、作家の言葉です。ペインティングだけでもインスタレーションの時の強度を出すことを目標にしています。４階ではペインティングのドローイングや、立体作品なども考えています。
会期中には、magical, ARTROOMの2年を振り返り、今後の展開について運営メンバーが話し合うトークショーを予定しています。また、最終日には、六本木コンプレックス全館でクロージングパーティーを行う予定です。ぜひこの記念すべき展示におこしいただけたら幸いです。宜しくお願いいたします。
