　magical, ARTROOM is proud to present Tadasuke Iwanaga’s solo exhibition, “TAKIJIRO.” Born in 1979, Iwanaga is a native of Shiga prefecture and is currently working on his doctorate at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His works are well renowned, with previous exhibitions at T&S, Switch Point, and Gallery Kaku. Other works has also been exhibited at hiromiyoshii in 2004 –the curation show for Kentaro Ichihara, “Index #1 Making Worlds.” After 2 years of production, he also successfully put together a comic book piece, which will be for sale at the exhibition. Iwanaga is an accomplished musician and performer as well. He is the lead vocalist and guitarist in the band "Mamitori."
Some critics say his strong oil paintings are reminiscent of Fauves. In recent years, careful dialogues have been applied to each of his pieces. As a result, his works possess a very powerful presence, through which we can experience the benediction and liberation of our lives. His comic book encompasses the same level of detail and care. At the exhibition, there will be 150 limited edition copies of his recently produced comic book. A special treat for admirers of Iwanaga's work, for both the comic book and the paintings of Iwanaga will be on display at the exhibition.
Please also take note that MAGIC ROOM?, which is owned by the member of magical, ARTROOM, Satoshi Okada in Kiyosumishirakawa has been hosting Mamitori’s live concerts. magical, ARTROOM and MAGIC ROOM? plan to collaborate on a project in the future with the band.

Iwanaga's artistry is in some ways very classic. To him, art means life itself, not at all anything extraordinary.There is an inner kind of lava constantly boilong in the chaotic coldness lying deep within his mind, which he violently spews out to take form sometimes as naive cartoon drawings and at other times as aggressive performaices where he sings to his strangely tuned Stratocaster. Indeed, an uncontrollable passion boiling at zero degrees. We are frozen still, touched by the fountain of his cold lava and encumbered by visions of his powerfully imaginative creations. This late arrival of our Don Quixote means much more than a simple nostalgia in the art world today where value has become the measurement; It will surely show us the way out of it. - Satoshi OKADA

企画趣旨

このたびmagical, ARTROOMでは、岩永忠すけ個展「TAKIJIRO」を企画しました。岩永忠すけは1979年佐賀県生まれ、現在東京藝術大学の大学院博士課程に在籍していますが、在学中からその力強い作品は知られ、T&S、Switch Pointやギャラリー覚での個展や2004年hiromiyoshiiでの市原研太郎キュレーション展『Index #1　Making Worlds』などで紹介されてきました。また、パフォーマンスや音楽などの活動、バンド「真美鳥」にて歌とギターをつとめ、数多くのライブ活動も行っています。2005年からは2年に渡り漫画の制作にうちこみ、2006年末一つの作品にまとまりました。今回の展示では、岩永忠すけの漫画作品を出版・販売することも予定しています。
岩永忠すけの絵は、フォーブの作家に連なるようなゆるがない油絵です。ここ数年はあまり多くは描かず、一つ一つの絵にゆっくり対しながら、制作してきました。それゆえ、絵はとても存在感をもち、祈りや救いを感じるものになっています。今回初めて出版する漫画の絵も、非常に繊細で密なタッチで描かれ、まるで銅版やエッチングでつくられたように思えます。本来であれば、なるべく多くの方にみていただきたい、手にとっていただきたいという意図でつくられていますが、今回初めてですので150部だけ、自主制作してお届けすることにいたしました。人の内的空間と外的空間の多層性、輪廻といったことに思い廻らすとてもいい本です。
ぜひ展示と本をご覧いただけたら幸いです。また、magical, ARTROOMの運営メンバー、岡田聡が清澄白河で運営しているMAGIC ROOM?でもこれまで真美鳥のライブを行って参りましたが、今回も関連の展示（『TAKIJIRO』出版記念展を行いますので、宜しくお願い致します。

　岩永の芸術行為はある意味古典的だ。それは彼にとって生きざま（人生）そのものであって、決して特別な営為ではない。彼の内部に渾沌と冷たく煮えたぎるマグマを、ある時は荒々しい筆致のペインティングに、ある時は緻密な細密マンガに、ある時は独自のチューニングをほどこしたストラトキャスターをかき鳴らし歌うことで凶暴に噴出させるのである。押さえることのできない零度のパッション。そこに立ち会うわれわれは彼の冷たいマグマの源流に触れ凍り付き、強い想像力の産物のみがもたらす既視感に襲われるだろう。価値相対主義的な現状のアートシーンにとって、この遅れてきたドン・キホーテの存在は単なるノスタルジーではなく、必ずや何らかの出口を示唆してくれるに違いない。－岡田聡
