We are pleased to inform you that solo exhibition of Sachiyo TSURUMI entitled “fig on the left eye, sun on the right eye” will open its door on August 3rd. Tsurumi is born in Ibaraki, Japan in 1978. After she got MA at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts in 2003, Tsurumi has been enthusiastic in working and has experienced the solo exhibition at INAX gallery (Tokyo) in 2004, and also got award at “New Open Call Exhibition” at Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, and“Gunma Biennial” at The Museum of Modern Art, Gunma. In 2006, she exhibited at the group show entitled “WORM HOLE episode 2” at magical, ARTROOM. After the show, She was selected to be in the rising artist training system of Agency for Cultural Affairs for 10 months. We are proud to show the result of her activities.
Tsurumi presents photographs and drawings as one layer. Her drawings are based on her dreams and memories. Through adding those aspects such as dreams or memories on the photography, which in this case means cutout of reality, and making them into one layer, Tsurumi creates new vision of reality. She suggests that it is only choosing the right channel to “see” the real. The dreams or memories cannot be seen just because our channel is not rightly tuned, which means we might be able to “see” those aspects if we could tuned the channel. Her vision of the reality has inspired Mr. David Sylvian who is known as a musician and an artist, and they have collaborated at Sylvian’s project at Naoshima, and also on his latest album jacket. He has given her the message on her solo show.
Message
Sachiyo Tsurumi creates works that act as a bridge between what is seen and what goes unseen but is often perceived by other means in our experience of the world. She reminds us of the multi faceted dimensions of our reality in the everyday. it's conceivable there's some sort of mediumistic transformation taking place through the creation of her work. ー David Sylvian
このたびmagical, ARTROOMでは、鶴見幸代個展「左目のいちじく 右目の太陽」を企画しました。鶴見幸代は1978年茨城県生まれ、2003年東京藝術大学大学院修士課程修了。2004年INAXギャラリー（東京）などでの個展経験や、「新公募展」広島市現代美術館、「群馬青年ビエンナーレ」群馬県立近代美術館で受賞経験があります。2006年magical, ARTROOMでの『WORM HOLE episode2』に参加。その後、文化庁より10ヶ月の新進芸術家国内研修制度に任命され、真剣に制作に取り組んできました。その間制作した新作を展示いたします。
鶴見幸代は、写真とドローイングを１つのレイヤーにして提示します。ドローイングは夢でみたものであったり、記憶の要素であったりします。写真という現実の切り取りに夢や記憶といった要素をかさね、それを１つのレイヤーにすることで、新たなリアルを表出します。「みえている現実」は、今チューニングがあっていないから夢や記憶がみえていないが、実は夢や記憶といった要素も存在していて、チューニングがあえば「みえる」かもしれない。そういった鶴見のリアル感は、音楽家・美術家であるデビッド・シルヴィアンの共感を得て、彼の直島でのプロジェクトにイメージを提供したり、今回発売されるアルバムに起用されています。今回の展覧会にむけてのメッセージもよせていただいています。

メッセージ
鶴見幸代は、「目に見えるもの」と、経験によって感知できるが「不可視なもの」との架け橋となるような作品を生み出している。日常の現実には多面的次元があるということに気付かせてくれるのだ。またその創作過程においては、ある種の霊媒的な変容が生ずるように思われるのである。 ーデビッド・シルヴィアン
